Grade 1

On the 6th of November 2019, the 1B students went on an excursion to the 100 Story Building Workshop. Our genre for this term is Narrative and this excursion linked well as it allowed for students to be creative outside the classroom. The workshop unlocked the imagination and creativity in students, so they were eager and willing to participate in the writing process.

Grade 1C students made the most of a fantastic sunny day recently.

They used the time to engage with their ‘Wild Child’ with the other grade 1s.

Mr Yacoub helped them to create art pieces with leaves, sticks, gumnuts, stones anything they could find. Some made ‘fires’, others villages, some houses and of course some stacked models. They used their communication skills to work with others and explored their creative abilities alone and in groups.

Children also enjoyed a ‘rock tea party’ where they characterised an object and enacted make believe play. Ms Houda was able to elicit some amazing rock conversations and great rock manners.

Moving on to Ms Bassant the children engaged with their creative writing in the wild. Using the environment around them as visual cues children were able to shrink or grow to meet their story setting. Some took more prompting than others, but all children thoroughly enjoyed their new classroom.

Some free play was needed for the children to finish off with some rolly pollies, running wild through the grass, exploring a little more around the trees or just sitting with friends chatting and picking at the grass.

Grade 2

The Year 2 team at East meadows had an excursion to the Melbourne Zoo as part of their Integrated Studies topic of Biological Sciences. This term students have focused on the life cycle of living organisms.

Grade 3

On the 30th of October 3B went to camp at the Melbourne zoo. I was very excited. First, we had a normal school day then we had to come back to school at 5 o’clock all ready with our suitcases. When my dad dropped me at school I said goodbye to him and my little brother and got in the bus.

When we arrived at the Melbourne zoo we had to get our suitcases from the bus. Mrs.Sirin took some photos of us. Then, we saw our tour guides they were driving a car. They parked in the parking lot and said hi to us. Then they told us to put our suitcases at the back of the car that they were driving. We did as they said. Then, they brought us to the campsite. It was very big and there was a lot of tents too. The tour guides told us to sit in a circle and then we introduced ourselves and mentioned our favourite animals. The tour guides told their names. The girls name was Sarah and the boy’s name was Pete. Then Sarah handed us each a map which was attached to a lanyard. Then, we had to set our tent up and had dinner. After dinner we went on a night tour. First we saw the giraffes and the zebras. After seeing few more animals, we went back to the campsite to sleep. The next day, we went on a morning tour after breakfast. We saw the tigers, zebras and a few more animals. Then Mrs.Sirin took us on a tour. After that we had lunch and got in the bus.

Overall, I think camp was amazing and I can’t wait for year 4 camp!
